Inspired or Unintentional?
One of my favorite activities while listening to songs is to compare to other ones that I have heard and see whether I can find its match, like its "Doppelgänger" (to some extent).
We all have heard of parodies, composer intentionally uses same accompaniment and cleverly changes lyrics. We have heard different musical quotes or lyrics are thoughtfully placed within compositions, but I am curious to know whether composers have accidentally composed identical melodic themes and have no realized that it could sound like copying.
Another thought, could our minds subconsciously remember musical ideas that somehow inspire us to write down the same and we are convinced that it is our own because we dont know otherwise? sense? Perhaps we just like a theme and want to elaborate it our own way. I say we, but I have no one in particular to direct this towards.
To be more specific, at the moment I am listening to 2 songs that are similar in the beginning.
To save space on the post, I will just list out some other songs that I found similar..or just reminded me of the other..
Rihanna - Unfaithful vs. Rob Thomas - Lonely No More
Jet - Look What You've Done vs. Bonnie McKee - Somebody
Phil Vassar - In a Real Love vs. KC & Jojo - All My Life
Holly Brook - Giving it Up For You vs. [fill it in when i remember later]
Plain White T's - 1,2,3,4 vs. The Pretty Reckless - You Make Me Wanna Die
and the controversial
Avril Lavigne's - Girlfriend vs. The Rubinoos' - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend
Sure these are small similarities, but I find it interesting, almost as interesting as when Rob Paravonian quoted songs using Pachelbel's popular cello chord progression.. (obviously not Pachelbel's solely)
Could it ever be possible that we run out of musical combinations?!?
BTW, there are blogs dedicated to this topic of songs that are alike!!

Tim Be Told
Twist of fate, Wednesday I decided to volunteer at a cultural event at UT, and as it turns out they had a special guest band there who played. IT WAS SO AMAZING!!!
It was worth putting of my hw, because I found this band very inspiring. Their lyrics express positivity and hope for our time. They had a free download of this song on their myspace :).. so that night I listened to that song nonstop. I even took my own video of some of the songs Tim Ouyang sang. Tim Be Told-Analyze

Met my future?
Today at the coffee bean and tea leaf at the domain, while my mum finishes her order of cafe mocha, I am standing there at the other end of the counter waiting for the guy to serve me my order of iced water..and i look at the girl who is also waiting for her drink. Turns out that she is wearing the same identical summer dress that i am wearing, the only difference is that she wore a white cardigan over it and I had on a white laced shrug. what are the chances of that?
The laughter at the coincidence was the introduction of conversation, what we learned was that this girl's name was Yuki and that she was getting her doctorate in music at the same university that I will start attending this next week!
Makes me wonder how incredible this coincidence is, perhaps it really is nothing..but I'd like to think that there is a reason for this encounter. Who knows.

Thing I would regret?
Someone asked me on my formspring what was one thing I would regret. I think to regret something is a waste of emotion. I mean we live and learn and life keeps going on. When we dwell in the past of something that could have been different, time is leaving us behind. So I don't want to regret anything, so therefore I will live in the present, and make the most of the here and now yes?
Recently, I found out that my friend was being hospitalized because of her low heart rate. She fainted, and is under 100 pounds right now. I would call it anorexia, but she denies the notion. The doctors tell her that she has to remain there for many weeks, I hope she can get better soon. It's a shame to be passing the summer in a hospital, when she has no major problems besides mental health and underweightedness. sigh. I wish I could live closer to her and maybe visit her.
On a Happier note, I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE MUSIC VIDEO :D
Although it is a bittersweet song about having loved and lost, and remain one sided.. it's so sweet. Makes me realize that this dream of becoming some celebrity is no easy task. Private life and friends take on a new meaning.

I dig The Dig
As my friend was asking me to recommend new music, I realized that I've not been as diligent as I used to when it comes to finding fresh bands. Welllll, today I reconnected with that side of me and what I found (stumbled upon) was this band.

BBMak is Love
Something about the idea of graduating high school, that makes me feel like bringing out the dusty old CD's of my past that have kept me going up to now. One of my favorite bands in the 90's was a British boy band called BBMak. Does anyone remember them?

Steadily Breathe in..
...and let it out slowly.
As I sit here in class and be distracted with new music selections, I noticed how many indie bands from Oregon I especially enjoy to listen to...
A Weather is another one of them, their sound is really soothing and it makes me want to cuddle up with a good book, tea and my soft blanket on this rainy day.
What I noticed while listening to each song, is that they always give reference to the WEATHER! In the given mood of the song.. and they also sing about other natural elements.
I recommend you whoever you may be to give a listen to their newest album Everyday Baloons, if you are into the mellow and lax type of music :D.......it just fits my day today

Something Mellow
Rocky Votolato is the one. His acoustic and folk stylistic guitaring matched with his smooth and scratchy sound creates a nice combination.

Dancell~
Baby band. Just starting up, but I think they have a lot of potential! I just feel very envious of their talents. I discovered them from the WassabiProductions youtube videoo.. cuz they sent Alex and Roi some BAND SHIRTS! This band of young guys has a mellow sound and rockin beats. Not even out of high school yet. These guys will be someone I follow from now on~
Their bio from Myspace:
Dancell, formed in the early part of 2008, is an alternative rock band based out of Jacksonville, Florida. With the average age of the group being 18, Dancell somehow manages to possess an innate ability for songwriting, which is demonstrated in the band's early demos. While the songs are catchy and melody driven, the messages themselves are very sincere and thoughtful. Another tool in the band's arsenal are their live performances. Being known for high energy and sweat drenched performances, Dancell always aims to bring a good time when performing. With an abundance of potential, keep a close eye on Dancell, as they make their way into the music industry.

The Un-American
When Everything Breaks Open album by Matt Morris
What I discovered about this artist from his album is that he doesn't specifically sing in one genre, it is really a variety and mixture from many inspirations...unbelievable!Matt Morris - The Un-American
The lyrics are satirical and very interesting no doubt.
Needs a personal Jesus
Private insurance
An obedient wife
The un-American
Should really stop complaining
He oughta take a trip to Disney
Get his head on right
Buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new
It’ll be alright
Buy a new buy a new buy a new
That should fix the un-American
A threat to security
Feeding on literature
From a socialist state
The un-American
It really breaks my heart
To see a promising citizen deviate
Buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new
It’ll be alright
Buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new buy
That should fix the un-American
Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh oh
The un-American
Could be your own neighbor
He could be talking to your children
Sleeping with your wife
Oh what if you’re the un-American
Oh what if you’re the un-American
Oh what if you’re the un-American
Oh if you’re the un-American
Oh
Buy a new buy a new buy a new buy a new
It’ll be alright
Buy a new buy a new
And it’ll be alright
Be alright

You can run from the Truth.
I'm tongue tied
I've got to be honest, I'm terrified to fly blind
I tried to disarm you I played this part a thousand times
The hunter's the hunted
I'm terrified
I'm open wide
The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side
I wanted to have this under control
The story told
You came and rewrote it opened the door I've never known
You say that you hold them, the sands of time
You never lie
They pull like a current
I call to shore
There's no reply
The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side
And I never wanted anything like this before
The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side
The bridges that stand between you and I
Come over tonight
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side
Of mice and men on our side
